While not a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross manages to reference the game, and even connect its plot line to the SNES masterpiece. Widely considered a masterpiece, Chrono Cross featured beautiful pre-rendered hand-drawn backgrounds populated by a colorful cast of 3-D models. Holding a 94 Metacritic rating, Chrono Cross is one of the most critically acclaimed JRPGs of all time. As far as JRPGs go, Chrono Cross was one of PlayStation’s best games. Square’s masterful follow-up to Chrono Trigger sold 1.5 million units. Released in Japan in 1999, and in the year 2000 in the U.S. In Arc the Lad II all areas from the first game are present as well as new areas. The game was designed to be short and only features a few continents. Arc the Lad is a tactical RPG, a lot like Final Fantasy Tactics or the Fire Emblem series, which used a turn-based system. The first game in the series was developed by G-Craft and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Not very popular in North America, this game and series saw huge success in Japan. This was partly due to the fact that it wasn’t released in North America until Arc The Lad Collection was released in 2002.
The series thrived in Japan, but saw very little success in the West. It birthed the series with the same name and branched into other media like manga and anime. Arc the Lad (1995)Įxclusive to the PlayStation, Arc the Lad sold almost 1.6 million copies. Enemy encounters are triggered on the map when you step into hot spots. While waiting for your turn, you can move around the battle field and dodge enemy attacks. The game uses a real-time combat system that can be paused.
